LONDON: Pink Floyd have been voted the world's greatest rock act of all time in a new poll by Planet Rock radio station.

The band, which has sold 200 million albums worldwide since its formation in 1965, beat Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones to top the spot.

"They are one of the greatest bands in the history of rock and roll," The Sun quoted Planet Rock presenter Nicky Horne as saying.

Listeners named the 1970s the golden decade of rock, followed by the 1960s, 1980s and the 1990s.

The 10 greatest rock acts ever per the poll:

1. Pink Floyd

2. Led Zeppelin

3. The Rolling Stones

4. The Who

5. AC/DC

6. U2

7. Guns N Roses

8. Nirvana

9. Bon Jovi

10. Jimi Hendrix

Pink Floyd sucks...very boring..LZ is greatest HM band, but anyone over 12 stopped listening to them..I am actually quite surprised with how high the Stones finished. PF is not a factor...they don't rock...and LZ is a highschool kids band..We are actually #1!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, we are on a list with U2 and Bon Jovi.....another humiliation. All who agree with this list are not true fans (us) and shall not be greeted.

ShaneJazz This board is completely useless whenever there is a break in a tour. All anyone ever does is bitch and complain about other bands and "this and that" poll. C'mon, jealousy is not an endearing trait. There are lots of amazing bands out there, The Stones being at the forefront.

I agree. Very boring band that attracts a lot of stoners.
Their songs are always way too long and they all sound just alike.

Ramrod Pink Floyd were and are still great innovators, who took psychedelia British style, gave it a twist of blues guitar and came up with their own still very listenable music which has not dated. Led Zep made some great albums - I think of them as blues orientated hard rock with eastern and English folk influences rather than as a metal act. Both great bands. Both very much still retain a loyal adult audience while gathering new generations of fans: neither Zep nor Floyd make me feel insecure about the Stones enduring legacy in any way - The Stones also keep their older fans while gathering new ones.

The Stones at the end of the day will always finish around the top of the various polls, depending on the particualr demographic of the poll conductors readership. Basically the same bands have for decades. So who really cares?
