John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ has been crowned as the UK’s favourite single in a radio poll.
The classic fought off competition from The Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘Let It Be’ which were second and third respectively in the Virgin radio survey conducted with 7,000 listeners.
More contemporary songs in the top ten were Robbie Williams’ ‘Angels’ in fifth and shockingly James Blunt’s sickly ‘You’re Beautiful’ at number ten.
In the top 500 as a whole, The Beatles had the most entries with 33, The Rolling Stones had 17 and U2 had 15.
David Bowie and Queen were tied with an impressive 14 entries each.
The top ten is as follows:
1. Imagine - John Lennon
2. Hey Jude - Beatles
3. Let It Be - Beatles
4. One - U2
5. Angels - Robbie Williams
6. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
7. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
8. Every Breath You Take - The Police
9. Hotel California - The Eagles
10. You're Beautiful - James Blunt
