LONDON — Punk Films has been on the road providing visual imagery, animation and effects for The Rolling Stones’ “Licks” tour as well as the multimedia event “Sun Rings” commissioned by NASA to commemorate Voyager's 25 years in space.
For the “Licks” tour, Punk Films, armed with Apple PowerBooks G4 Titanium laptops running final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop, displayed imagery on a giant video projection screen behind the stage. Some of the imagery included live shots of the band so audience members in the back rows could see the faces of Mick and Keith, and at other times text and graphics appeared.
Punk also used footage provided by NASA, Jet Propulsion Laboratories and University of Iowa to create the sights and sounds that accompany the music of The Kronos Quartet at Kronos Performing Arts Association in San Francisco. Punk tweaked the footage including a close-up shot of the sun’s surface, which they cleaned up using After Effects and a Denoiser plug-in.
