Rock's ever-cool cadaver isn't ready to rest in peace, so instead local pickers, roots rockers and musicians beholden to the Stone's slash-and-burn blues celebrate his 58th birthday. Members of Mother Hips and Cool Water Canyon, the Cave-Ins, Forever Goldrush, Katy J, West by God, Persephone's Bees, the Mother Truckers, David Dondero, Brad Brooks and the Unauthorized Rolling Stones all attempt to do Richards proud. Fans get to partake in cake and rock out, too, and a portion of the proceeds go to Bay Area Women Against Rape.
With members of Mother Hips and Cool Water Canyon, Forever Goldrush, Katy J, West by God, Persephone's Bees, the Mother Truckers, Brad Brooks, the Substitutes, the Unauthorized Rolling Stones, David Dondero and the Cave-Ins; Slim's, 333 11th St., SF; 8 pm; $5; (415) 522-0333. |

The world is truly in a mess when it's possible to feel
bad for Mick Jagger.
Rolling Stone magazine's shocking five-star review
and all those hot young hirelings dutifully genuflecting
in the front rows at Jagger's recent appearances
haven't done a thing for the essential wretchedness
of his new solo album.
The poor fella. You'd think by now he'd have it
figured out: Mick's nothing without Keith.
It's Keith's birthday on Tuesday, and a bunch of Bay
Area musicians will pay their eternal respect by
covering Stones songs. They'll even have cake.
Think anybody bakes for Mick's birthday?
Keith Richards birthday party with members of
Forever Goldrush, Mother Hips,
West by God, Persephone's Bees and guest
appearance by the Unauthorized Rolling Stones, 8
p.m. Tuesday at Slim's, 333 11th St., San Francisco.
Tickets:
$5. (415) 522-0333 or www.slims-sf.com.
