I've been watching Four Flicks for the first time the past week (pardon my tardiness - for many a year I had a "nothing after Tattoo You" policy regarding the Stones, but ever since the Abkco SACDs came out I've been playing catch up). Anyway, the Twickenham show seems to be a cut above the rest. I've never seen the Stones live - would Twick rate as an above average show compared to others in the '95-'05 era? Is the playing on this (Bigger Bang) tour better or worse in general to Licks? Finally, is the version of Gimme Shelter on Live Licks the same as the Twick DVD? Lisa's great on that one. The Time Is On Our Side site lists the Licks GS as from MSG, but on the DVD they did not play GS at MSG. Thanks.

Twicks did seem like an extraordinarily good show, Egbert. As for GS, it was played but I guess they dropped it off the DVD. |

I think that for at least the first 2 shows (the only 2 I've seen so far) of the ABB tour (Fenway Park, Boston) were much better than anything off of Four Flicks.
For example, that dumb-sounding keyboardist is turned way down in volume and the guitars up. Ronnie and Keith's guitar playing has been smoking. Better than any of the prior shows I've been to, nevermind FF.

i don't particularly like the twick show on flicz
i don't particularly regard that performance as significative
imho lots of effects and little playing (expecially on SFTD, also GS - listen to 97 or even no security version for comparison, TD)
i hear in that all the downs of late stones and a few of their ups
there's a smoking version of SFM on the b-stage i have to admit
but what i heard so far from ABB tour i like a whole lot better
matter of tastes i guess |
