nankerphelge Excellent header by the way!!!

Here in the US, we can't say "Merry Christmas" much anymore because, while there is a certain freedom to chose your religion, there is no similar freedom to share it with anyone else. At least as long as it isn't some form of Christianity -- you know, that horrible religion that preaches forgiveness.

Anything else is pretty much fine though -- Festivus, Kwanza, Islam even -- non-Christian religions are allowed to share because if you don't, you are intolerant. It's all very simple really!

Heard yesterday that some school district even decided it was no longer okay to decorate with red and green for Christmas... I mean, "the holidays." Apparently red and green are too associated with the aforementioned Christmas, and so they must be shunned. See here in the US, you cannot discriminate based on color, unless it is the color associated with that Christianity thingy! That's no good.

Well whatever -- hope everyone has a wonderful next couple of days of seeing people that they like and who don't wear controversial colors and don't wish you a very nice time!

I only heard about that some weeks ago and I was completely surprised. The US felt like another world to me in that regard. I have never heard anyone complain about Merry Christmas (Fijne Kerstdagen in Dutch) over here. We do have the alternative Happy Holidays (Prettige Feestdagen in Dutch) too however, and they are both used, but not for the Christianity-reason you mentioned. "Feestdagen" includes New Year's essentially. I am atheist, but I don't mind the term Christmas. Maybe because the holiday isn't associated much with Christianity anymore in most places.

So, do those people who are against the term Christmas, work on December 25 (if they would be free otherwise)?

My take on it is that tolerance comes through in your daily behavior, not in some hollow words anyway. Too many people don't get that.

Happy Christmas, or your own interpretation of the season.

Sung to the tune of "Here Comes Santa Claus")

Here comes Heineken
Here comes Heineken
Right down Heineken lane
Blitzen and Schlitzen and all his reindeer
Pulling on the reins

Room is spinning
Santa’s grinning
All is merry and bright
Put on your drinkin shoes
And get ready for booze
Cause Heineken comes tonight!

Here comes Heineken
Here comes Heineken
Right down Heineken lane
3 liters tall and jolly and green
And rattling my brain

Wish upon a star
And meet me at the bar
What a beautiful sight
Deck the halls
And say g'bye to yer balls
Cause Heineken comes tonight!
