RSRTG I know I'm not in the same league as some of you Stones veterans as far as concert attendances go, but my highlight as far as songs played live that I have seen and heard would have to be Far Away Eyes.
This song was played at Football Park South Australia as part of the Voodoo Lounge Tour in '95.( my very first stones concert)It was played so close to the Some Girls original that I had tears running down my face!
A close 2nd would have to be Midnight Rambler which incidently, is my all time fav song, played at Wembley in '99.

stade de france: my favorite nightmare

to me, Midnight Rambler in Marseille 2003.
Rocks Off at Bercy, it was sloppy but I ve loved hearing one of my fav $tone$ song!
on the previous tours (VL,BTB) nothing was unforgettable.
oh,wait, the intro of BTB with Satisfaction was great in Barca!

hey RSRTG - that was my first stones show too and that was agreat version of Faraway eyes (to the contrary Just My imagination was a big disappointment all chuck and no guitars - yuK!!) - you from adelaide??? - do we know each other??

anyway to answer your question and limit it to songs that i have seen live there is no doubt that when they opened the enmore show in '03 with Midnight Rambler it was one of THE most jaw dropping things i've seen or heard at ANY rock and roll show and i've seen thousands of them , literally

Gazza the easiest one is Under My Thumb at Slane Castle in '82. First song of the first Stones show I ever attended. I knew what they were going to open with but the sheer impact of the Stones a few feet in front of you for the first time in your life was knee-weakening in the extreme

Little Queenie - Paris 1998 (almost getting crushed to death after having stood for 8 hours in an over-filled stadium just so I could stand five feet from the b-stage)
I Got The Blues - Hartford 99 (proper concert debut)
Midnight Rambler - Rotterdam 95 (final VL show)
Wild Horses - Wembley Stadium 95. Worth the plane journey and ticket price on it's own!
Sweet Virginia - Anaheim 2002
Sympathy For The Devil - same show. One of the best versions ever!
Its a Long Way To Tipperary - Dublin 2003

glencar Gazza, when I saw the 1981 opener at Philly, there was no way to know what they'd play. The surprise was nice.

thats the advantage you have in the US at the start of every tour - by the time Europe comes around, there might be a few changes but its relatively predictable.

Plus, in 1982, "Still Life" had just been released, so we kinda guessed it would be "Under My Thumb"

since 1967, it was only played as part of the medley with "If you cant rock me" in 1975-76, then not again until a few b-stage performances in 1999. I think they skipped it on the Licks tyour entirely.

So, to answer your question - not very often!

They opened a show with Midnight Rambler?? I had no idea. I never would've imagined that. Fuck, it must have been amazing!

Buffalo was only the 3rd show of the tour. They played "Tops" at Philly #1, Buffalo and Boulder #1 (3rd October) before dropping it. It has never been played since.

This would have been a great song to do on a Licks Club show, sadly, they were too strung out to give the performance justice on the 1981 tour, but those were the days when bands toured to promote an album, not release an album as an excuse to tour (see How to dismantle an atomic bomb)
