I know that Keith Richards referred to his condition during the recording of the album, Black And Blue on the Uncut interview.
Does anyone know what he said about his state during the making of this beautiful and hard rocking album?
I feel that the phrase, "black and blue" may be a veiled reference to Keith's drug use, specifically, the black and blue bruises and track marks on his arms.
This is a sensational album. Memory Motel is one of the Stones' most beautiful ballads. Hand Of Fate has one of the best guitar tones I've ever heard. |

no, it's a veiled reference to the great black artists of the blues. (and the bruised girl in the fridge!!!) why would he make a reference to his drug use, he's said often that it was his own private thing. |

The Stones' music and lyrics are full of drug references. Keith's own ballad, Coming Down Again, Sister Morphine, Brown Sugar, and Moonlight Mile are some quick examples. |

Well some of Black & Blue was recorded in Rotterdam & Munich right? Late '74 and mostly early '75, right? Weren't Bowie & Iggy in Munich too around then? It wasn't for the schnitzengrubens!
Then Keith and Ronnie did a lot together at Ronnie's place getting ready for the '75 tour since Mick T. quit.
Tour started at LSU on June 1, Ronald's bithday - and ends at Rich Stadium August 8.
Keith went to Thailand to unwind!
Ya gotta love it!
From October-November they did some recording at Montreux and Munich, and in Jan '76 mix it in New York.
April 20th '76 - B&B released
April 28-June 23 the European tour.
He was in good enough shape to withstand 2 tours and the putting together of Black & Blue. He looked a might bit rougher by the Toronto bust in '77.
I don't recall any articles at the time where Keith discussed his condition in detail -- he may have spoken about it candidly later, but I doubt he was talking about it much then.
I'm sure it spoke for itself!

People on the forum are saying that keith gave "a first hand account of his drug use during the Black and Blue era" on the Uncut interview.
I'm just wondering what he is saying because there seems to be a real bittersweet subtext to this album. On the cover, Keith is facing Mick and seems to be saying "I need you to help carry me now." |
