Well, beer, you are right.
He's had many chances to straighten up. Maybe when Keith was busted he shoulda went to jail, too.
Anyways, I don't really see the relevance of Scott Weiland to "Sticky Fingers". Do you? Huh, do ya? |

Yeah, it's just like those people that think they are bigger fans than others because they spend thousands of $$$ to see the Stones, huh?
Exactly. I'm not a Stones fan cuz I don't like "Bitch"? Then I'm not a Stones fan...hell, maybe I won't post anymore!
Ladies and Gentleman, I am now a Beatles fan! See you guys later, it was wonderful chatting and posting with some of you. |

Come back, Boomy! I was just kidding! Don't leave! |

I know EXACTLY what you mean...I love this song...especially when I hear it on the radio, kinda unannounced....it makes it that much more enjoyable. |
|

Stones on the radio? It's been quite a while since I've heard them. I think you're more likely to hear them on an oldies station than a classic rock station. Still, it's always nice to hear them when they get airplay. |

I think he was just kidding too. But I can't believe anyone wouldn't like that song. But........... |

sticky fingers is one of the best stones albums, i wish it had more numbers! |
|
glencar |
But how do you feel about "Bitch"? |
|
Ten Thousand Motels |
Actually the lyrics in that song are quite funny...classic Mick definetly.

I should say that I didn't realize that Boomy had it on his "no likey" list. On another board a few months ago, I was amazed that another poster said she never liked the song. I couldn't believe that one could call oneself a fan & not like taht song. It'd be like not liking TD, JJF or YCAGWYW. But I've grown in office since than & can acknowledge that it's all opinion & yes, one might not like some songs and still be a huge fan.
In short, Boomy, I apologize. Never again! |

Oh don't worry about Boomy. Seems he was never a "real" Stones fan anyway. If he doesn't like "Bitch" he can't be. Real Stones fans like that song.

jesus TTM, i sincerely hope you are joking..this "you can't be a true stones fan if you don't like XXX" is such puerile nonsense...i mean, how does one become appointed to the position of "stones fan arbiter" anyway??
why can't we say that anybody who doesn't like "indian girl" is not a true fan - after all a "true fan" will love everything the band has ever done...won't they???
i just hope boomy's "threat" was made in jest...he's a good guy and i'd say anybody who hangs around a place like this for as long as he has qualifies as a "genuine" fan in my book even if he doesn't go over the top about every thing the band has done |
|
glencar |
I hope it was in jest. As I said above, I was kidding & hadn't realized until after my original post that the damned song was on his list. |

Of course it's a jest. Even beyond a jest as it is ridiculous. As you've pointed out it is "puerile nonsense".
That's why I suspect that Boomy was joking too. I've always enjoyed his posts. In fact I usually enjoy everyone's posts. Some more than others but that's what makes it interesting, so many people, so many angles.

I started an almost identical thread to this over on the Gas Gas Gas message board a few weeks back.
The problem with Sticky Fingers is that it is completely overshadowed, not so much by Let It Bleed, but by Exile. I don't really think it is underrated (It is certainly highly praised when discussed) but I think it is under appreciated. There is a difference. I think it is a wonderful album. It contains two of the Stones most endearing numbers in Brown Sugar and Wild Horses. Personally, I think it is perhaps they're most consistent record. As I stated above, the problem with Sticky Fingers is purely that it needs a little more attention then it gets.
Well done Xzzy for opening our ears one more.

I saw "adaption." on HBO last night. They played "Wild Horses" during a driving scene. Great movie, great scene, great song. |

I think that Sticky really is the first 70s rock album, all slick postures and professional distance. In many ways it is the most awesomely godlike record the Rolling Stones have put out, which is I think why I have given it the short shrift myself in the past. Sticky initiates the pattern of albums like It's Only Rock and Roll and Tattoo You and Voodoo Lounge that are more "professional rock gods" records - eclectic in sound, consistent in posture, and perverse but not personal. There is more a sense of distance on that album than on Let It Bleed or Exile or Black & Blue or Aftermath, which are all much quirkier.
That said, Sticky Fingers is the greatest of the Stones' slicker records. I think it scared every musician who heard it to death and really upped the ante for drug posturing, guitar sonics, great riffs, and diversity of song writing. But it is like a bolt from Olympus rather than a record made by human beings that walk the Earth, and I generally prefer the latter.
In some ways, the greatest record the band ever made, in others, the beginning of the end. |

Interesting post, Nasty. Gives us all something to think about. Aren't the later songs on it somewhat personal though? |
