Topic: Help me out - Best Club Song Performances Return to archive
12-19-03 01:37 AM
UGot2Rollme Thanks to RO Trees, I've now got a bunch of club boots and wanted to make a "best of" compilation over the holidays just for grins... here's what I have so far:

Hand of Fate: Philly
Rocks Off: Aragon
Worried about You: Astoria
Rock me baby: Enmore
That's How Strong.. : Olympia

please add to the list, from other shows or those above..
Thanks!

beer i haven't listened to the newer boots in awhile but i'd put on "Torn and Frayed". it was played somewhere, cant remember which one or even if it was a good version or not, but i love that song.
it had to be better than the live '72 version, right?
12-19-03 04:36 AM
Zack You can't forget She Smiled Sweetly from Roseland for the rarity value alone. That number was the biggest surprise of the whole tour I think.

Jumacfly I think the best boot for theatre show is....palais royale:
sharpy version of "if you can t rock me", great "heart of stone", hot stuff, stray cat blues, well that s IMO the best recorded show of the tour...

cheers

Phog They did a very nice version of "Stray Cat Blues" at the Wiltern show. The recording isn't as pristine as the Palais Royale, but it fuckin' smokes.

There's also a shit-hot version of "Parachute Woman" from the Boston theater show that should be on your comp, too.
12-19-03 06:59 AM
Jumacfly Phog, my catholic friend!!! i think about you every time i put a Fb record on my stereo!! too busy to go on the FB site, guess you understand...
Anyway, "show me up your tears" is one of the best rock album of the year...

but, yes, parachute woman version is great indeed!!!
Hand of Fate in Chicago is pretty good too hu??
Rocks off from Stockholm (arena, not club) nice too
Sray Cat Blues from Cirkus...no comment, what ca a poor boy do except being in late on the first verse??

cheers
Ju

UGot2Rollme thanks - keep them coming..

yeah, it's unfortunate that Mick flubbed the beginning of Stray Cat at Cirkus because I think the rest of the song smokes..

(bet your momma don't know...)
12-19-03 08:45 AM
glencar Turd On The Run was done at Palais Royale. Was it ever done again?
12-19-03 08:50 AM
Jumacfly It was torn and frayed Glencar...turd on the run is for next tour!!
12-19-03 09:06 AM
glencar Geez, I gotta go get more sleep!
12-19-03 09:08 AM
Jumacfly or more shiba!!!! LOL!
12-19-03 09:29 AM
JaggaRichards I Cant Turn You Loose from Palais Royale
12-19-03 11:28 AM
Phog Greetings Jumacfly!!! "Show Me Your Tears" is a great fucking record. Frank just keeps pumping 'em out. Have you heard his Stones cover (Down In The Hole)? You might try to hunt it down, it's pretty interesting.

"Stray Cat Blues" from Cirkus was very painful to witness. Once they get rolling, though, it's very nice. "Worried About You" and "That's How Strong My Love Is" from that show are awesome, too. "Midnight Rambler" from the Enmore show is cool.
12-19-03 11:34 AM
Jumacfly Phog, i ll try to search it..anyway the adress you gave me is a nice vault for Fb fans!!

...you re right about those two songs from cirkus!! budokan got good gems too, great worried about you but Ronnie miss the solo..a nice rambler too!!
12-19-03 11:53 AM
erikjjf That's How Strong My Love is from Roseland. True magic!
12-19-03 12:23 PM
glencar What do people think of "Hot Stuff" from Palais Royale?
12-19-03 04:54 PM
Phog Glencar,

I like it, but don't love it. "Hot Stuff" has never been one of my favorites. The Palais Royale version is pretty cool, but the horns in lieu of a wah-drenched guitar solo kinda fall flat for me. I think that the horns worked perfectly on "That's How Strong My Love Is". All versions.
12-19-03 08:59 PM
SHINE A LIGHT please. torn& frayed from palais royale.

i dislike hot stuff, no matter where it's done!!! it was done at palais royale and i cannot remember it. (don't go there).
12-19-03 09:02 PM
glencar Were you high? Drunk? Shake a leg, honey!
12-19-03 09:56 PM
SHINE A LIGHT HONEY IS SHAKIN' A LEG! NO, NOT HIGH, I DON'T DRINK......WELL ONLY EVIAN OR PERRIER. i was dancing with jerry stone, hanging with tony russell, joking with jc......but none of that matters, i simply BLOCKED OUT THAT SONG!!!!!??????
i didn't even realise they had played it till i read it here on this board. (glencar, hold back what you're about to say?????)
12-20-03 12:14 PM
T&A I love the horn arrangement on Hot Stuff - that song was made for horns, IMO.

And, PW from Orph was, hands-down, the highlight of the entire fucking tour, if you ask me. And, I won't tolerate dissension on this!
12-20-03 12:26 PM
Moonisup Brown sugar from Vredenburg
12-22-03 10:47 PM
midnightmagic Worried about You from the Aragon
torn and frayed from Aragon.
12-23-03 03:24 AM
Child of the Moon Personally, I really, REALLY love Hand of Fate from the Aragon. I know you've got the Philly version on there already, but that's *my* choice.

Or, if not that, then definitely Dance, Pt. 1 from Aragon. That may be my favorite club show, with Roseland and Palais Royale right behind it.

And any club compilation is incomplete w/o She Smiled Sweetly.
12-23-03 05:11 AM
remus quite surprising to me that nobody mentions Circus Krone which was acc to many people the best show of the European leg. However I have to admit there is no such good recording as from i.e. Palais Royale.
Anyway, they played a wonderful "That's how strong my love is" and a sensational "Can't turn you loose"
